Extending over 12,000 acres, Garynahine Estate lies on the West Coast of Lewis, but within easy reach of Stornoway and offers wonderful summer salmon and trout fishing, walked up grouse and snipe, and exceptional winter woodcock shooting.

The lodge, originally built in about 1720, and extended in the mid 60’s has undergone a series of refurbishments to provide very comfortable ten bedroom accommodation with six bathrooms and a separate billiards room, making it ideal for mixed age parties.

The fishing includes almost the whole of the Lewis Blackwater river system, and the salmon fishing has improved dramatically during the last fifteen years, with a five year average now well above 100, the bulk of the fish caught from July onwards.

In addition to the walked up grouse and snipe shooting which usually starts at the beginning of September, the jewel in the crown is the exceptional driven woodcock shooting. This unique shooting is offered on a very limited basis for parties of 10 guns from November to January each year. Parties usually shoot two days over a long weekend. A record bag of 76 woodcock was shot in one day in 2005, but bags of 30-50 birds are regularly achieved.

Garynahine is a wonderful all-round Hebridean sporting estate, with a mix of sport through the summer months and a very comfortable family sized lodge. It is ideal for family sporting parties.

The winter woodcock shooting is very special, and more suited to experienced shooting parties.
