Lettings are Sunday to Sunday.
Dounie is one of the most enchanting, picturesque and diverse fishing beats in Sutherland. The open landscape of the upper section contains a number of large pools interspersed with rapids; in the middle section there is a series of slower pools in deep gorges; in the lower section the river opens out but is still protected from the wind. There are twenty two named pools, most of which are easily accessible. Two beats are let, each of two rods. The estate owns both banks for the majority of the beat, but only the south bank is let. Beats are exchanged at lunch time each day. The resident ghillie will show new anglers the beat, and is available for advice if required. Dounie has a five year average in excess of 110 fish per year. Although 2008 was slightly below average, we did better than we might have expected given the low water conditions which persisted from May until August. This is a well loved beat, with many anglers returning year after year. Wading when required is easy, with some staging and platforms to help anglers cover the best lies.
The Bard is available to fishermen and holidaymakers year round. Set in a small garden, this traditional pine panelled cottage faces south to Carn Bhrean, and is only a few minutes walk from the river. It is comfortable, quiet and pleasantly furnished and equipped, and now includes satellite TV and DVD player. It has two twin bedded rooms and a bathroom upstairs, a dining room, sitting room with open fire, kitchen with dishwasher and cloakroom with shower downstairs. Night storage heaters, power for which is included in the rent, help to keep it cosy. If you'd like to book a holiday without any sporting please visit our Holiday Letting website |
