Dorback Estate is a classic mixed sporting estate lying in the heart of beautiful Speyside. Extending to over 18,000 acres, the land stretches from the low ground at Nethy Bridge to the spectacular high ground on the edge of the Cairngorm Massif.
Embracing both high and low ground heather moor, Dorback has an enviable reputation for both driven and walked up grouse shooting. The Estate is well butted and roaded and now includes an outstanding lunch hut at Fae Bothy. The experienced keepering team provide an enjoyable and relaxed but well organised day's sport. Dorback continues to produce remarkably consistent grouse shooting. 2009 was no exception, and following good breeding conditions, a successful full driven programme took place, with the high ground again being the most productive.
With a good stock of birds left, we look forward to offering a similar programme in 2010 for full teams of up to 9 guns.
Dorback is for the first time, making available to the general public some previously exclusive days sporting pheasant and partridge shooting on the low ground, a mix of Birch and Caledonian Pine. Driving birds from the fringes of the Estate's grouse moor and with skilful use of deep gullies and sandy knolls, the dedicated sporting team are able to present visiting guns with hardy, testing birds of the highest calibre.
In addition to the shooting, the Estate offers red deer stalking for one or two rifles in October, and there may be an opportunity for some early season roe deer.
Drum Lodge and Drum Cottage provide luxurious accommodation for a party of fourteen and four respectively on the estate. Both houses may be available for grouse shooting parties on a fully staffed and catered basis. In addition, Laggandhu Cottage, situated nearby, also offers very comfortable accommodation for a further six people.
