The River Glass forms the upper part of the River Beauly system which flows into the Beauly firth just North of Inverness.

The River Glass is a hydro controlled river, and although river levels may vary from day to day, there is always sufficient water for productive fishing.

The beat opens in July to coincide with main grilse run in July and August, which is supplemented by later running fish moving up from the lower river in September and October.

The Balmore beat is located in Strathglass, a little to the east of Cannich and extends to some 1.25 miles of the left (West) bank of the river, and includes 9 named pools of lovely fly water with a combination of wading and bank fishing. A new fishing hut was installed at the Road Pool in 2010 to complement the smaller existing hut at the Pot Pool, the midway point of the beat and many bank improvements have been carried out in recent years. 78 fish were caught in the 2010 season between the 15th of July and 15th of October with over 90% returned. This is an opportunity to secure a tenancy on a lovely accessible beat at a prime time and rods are available on a daily or weekly basis.

Balmore House

This beautifully renovated stone house is set off the road in the picturesque glen of Strathglass with southerly views towards the river valley and the rolling green hills beyond. Only 25 miles from the Highland capital of Inverness, Balmore House was fully renovated in 2011 to a deluxe standard and is the ideal retreat for a sporting holiday or gathering of family and friends. Balmore House is located a few hundred metres from the Balmore Beat of the River Glass (the main Beauly tributary) which offers 1.25 miles of left bank salmon fishing with a season extending from the 1st of July to the 15th of October.

Internally, the character and feel of this smart country house has been expertly maintained with traditional wooden and slate flooring, antique furniture and tweed fabrics blending with fresh white bed linen and bathrooms. The spacious kitchen/dining room is perfect for having a drink at the end of a busy day outdoors and exchanging tales over dinner. All bedrooms have private facilities, the two at the front of the house have dormer windows giving excellent views over the gardens and towards the river, and the family suite is accessed from private stairs at the back of the house.

Balmore House has lawns to the side and front, and is backed by a colourful bank of rhododendrons and mixed conifers rising to mature woodland and Creag Bhuidhe 'yellow hill'. Magnificent colourful azaleas are in abundance with mature lime and oak trees.

Strathglass is a highland glen of outstanding beauty well known for opportunities for bird and wildlife watching, walking, cycling, and horse riding.

Both Glen Affric and Glen Cannich are on the doorstep and there are a huge number of trails and walks to explore on foot or by bicycle. The spectacular falls of Plodda are located just past the village of Tomich.
